| Gender
Now we arrive at a very
different juncture than in what we find in English. Nouns,
adjectives and personal pronouns have to match by a gender thing.
This is a complicated part for learners of languages such as
English speakers. In English, he is
smart and she is smart. *No change* In Portuguese, ele e'
esperto and ela e' esperta. *Change* This means that for
most situations of describing a man, the respective adjective
matches the noun/pronoun and ends with the letter o. For women,
the respective adjective ends with the letter a. This applies
to a majority of subject/adjective agreements.
